Home | Blog | Kommando at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo

Kommando have been selected by the Scottish Government to help showcase Scotland at this year's World Expo in Shanghai.

Mandarin and Scottish speaking Kommando brand ambassadors will promote Scotland to Expo visitors as a great place to live, work, visit and do business.

The work coincides with First Minister Alex Salmond's visit to China this week to pursue Sino-Scottish business opportunities in key sectors including renewable energy, tourism, education and textiles.

Technologies, PixAngels and NomadiX will roam the high footfall event promoting, on overhead LED NomadiX screens, a digital video showcase of the best Scotland has to offer. Photo marketing teams, PixAngels, will take photographs of visitors to the UK Pavillion, print the photograph on the spot and hand the photograph over in a Chinese language Scotland-branded frame.

The bi-lingual Kommando brand ambassadors will share personal experiences of living and working in Scotland as well as encouraging the Chinese audience to visit Scotland's official Chinese-language website. To create visual impact, brand ambassadors will wear specially commissioned uniforms by Scottish designer Joyce Young using the Scotland China tartan.

As 200 countries gather in the one place under the "Better City, Better Life" theme of the World Expo 2010, the UK Pavillion is proving to be highly popular with the Chinese audience. Throughout the event, footfall is expected to reach up to 70 miliion with an estimated 40,000 visitors per day to the UK Pavillion alone.

Kommando technologies will complement the Scottish Government's activity online in China, based around a dedicated Scotland at Shanghai Expo micro-site and online world-wide ceilidh. Kommando PixAngels will drive traffic online where guests can view their photograph on a special build Chinese gallery site where photographs can be saved, e-carded, printed or seeded to Chinese social networking site, renren, with embedded Scotland-branded frame.

First Minister Alex Salmond said:

"The Shanghai Expo is a unique opportunity to showcase Scottish Innovation, culture and heritage to a truly international audience at the biggest visitor event in the world this year.

An estimated 70 million people are due to visit the Expo over 184 days and I am delighted that Scotland has a distinct presence at this major celebration of culture, innovation and technology from around the globe.

The Scottish Government has been working with VisitScotland, Scottish Development International ( SDI ) and the British Council to promote Scotland at the Expo as a key destination to live, work, visit and do business. Kommando's innovative and creative use of the latest technology will give Expo visitors a fantastic flavour of Scotland's vibrant culture and heritage."
